About us

A closet full of care, stocked by a whole community.

The Care Closet is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working so that no Lake County kid spends the weekend hungry.

Our mission

In the 2022 school year, Angie was teaching at Sorrento Elementary when she noticed students taking food home because they needed meals for evenings and weekends. She began putting extra food into backpacks each day for students who needed it most.

That classroom response became The Care Closet. Today, community support helps the organization provide food to local students anonymously, so no child has to wonder where their next meal will come from.

What we value

Dignity first

No hoops, no lectures, no photos of families in hard moments. Help should feel like a neighbor, not a system.

Local and specific

We work in Lake County, with Lake County schools and partners. That's the whole scope, on purpose.

Honest about numbers

We publish what we can verify and label what we can't. You should never wonder if a stat is real.

Joy is part of the job

Packing bags should be fun. Kids deserve food that feels like a treat, not a ration.

Executive Director

Angie founded The Care Closet after seeing students take food home from her classroom because they needed meals for evenings and weekends. What began as a quiet, self-funded effort became a nonprofit centered on dignity, consistency, and sustainable local support.

Secretary

I am a wife and a mother of three, born and raised in Central Florida. Being a mom has made me even more passionate about making sure children have the support and resources they need. I joined The Care Closet because I believe no child should have to go hungry. Being able to give back to my community and help provide meals for children in need is something that truly means a lot to me. As a board member, I am proud to be part of an organization that makes a real difference in the lives of local families. I believe that when we come together as a community, we can make a lasting impact. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside others who share the same heart for helping children and making sure they feel cared for and supported.

Keisha

Director at Large

Hi, I'm Keisha. With nearly 15 years in the financial industry, my journey started as a young mother determined to break the cycle of financial struggle. I'll never forget the teachers who looked out for me, providing my family with food and empowerment. That support changed everything, which is why serving on the Board of Directors is so personal to me. As someone leading our financial education initiatives, my goal is to ensure families are fed today while equipping them with the knowledge and tools to achieve lasting independence and free themselves from systemic cycles for good.
